There are several reasons to use half log sidings on outdoor huts and gazebos.
These are planks that have been sawed and milled to resemble half of a log, and are lighter than standards wooden timbers. This means that log cabins can be externally clad using this sort of wood, giving the appearance of a rustic bolthole, but without the extra weight of full- sized logs.
Another reason to use half log sidings on structures like garden cabin rooms is that they offer a high level of insulation. The energy efficiency of log cabins is immediately increased when added, and half log sidings can also soundproof these structures, making them perfect for outdoor recording studios – or just a bit of peace and quiet.
Log cabins finished in this style can be easier to maintain, and are usually quicker to repair.
Although half log sidings are long lasting, there may be times when replacement planks are needed. Simply pry off the log with a chisel or crowbar. Once removed, detach any old nails or screws and replace the piece of wood with another piece that has been carefully measured to fit the space.
Attach the half log with enough nails or screws to keep it secure. It should then be painted with the same treatment as the other wood for uniformity.
