While summer can be a wonderful time to enjoy your log cabin, it’s always a good idea to remember that winter is just on the horizon.
To successfully prepare your log cabin for the changing of the season, there are a number of actions you can take to ensure the structure is in good order when spring rolls around.
Some of the basic tasks to complete on outdoor huts and gazebos include checking the chimney to make sure it is not blocked with debris and cleaning gutters, removing old leaves and other detritus. Covering a clean and cold fireplace with a tarpaulin will help prevent any outside matter falling into your log cabin.
There are external checks and tasks to be done too, such as covering up air vents, making sure any outdoor furniture is brought inside. Ensure to clean up anything that could attract rodents, such as food waste or mess from pets. This is especially important for BBQ sheds, where food is regularly prepared and discarded.
Internally, it can be a good idea to thoroughly clean any carpets or rugs, as well as ensuring food is taken out of cupboards - especially perishables. Washing surfaces and mopping floors will help avoid mould and moss.
The doors and windows of bespoke log cabins must be thoroughly shut and locked, and water and electricity supplies can be turned off if possible. Electrical appliances should be unplugged, and BBQ hut accessories stored away.
