To ensure your log cabin or BBQ hut is fully protected and covered by warranty, here's a few things to think about when it comes to treating and painting:

A 2-stage process is required to ensure the cabin is fully protected, and covered by our warranty.

Stage 1 - a high quality preserver to protect against rot, fungi and wood destroying insects.  
Stage 2 - A weatherproofing coat to protect the cabin from the elements, and enhance the look of the cabin.   

We would NEVER recommend using a clear weatherproofing coat as we have found that, despite manufacturer advice, the timber can actually degrade prematurely.  If you are looking for a natural finish, we would advise looking at Thorndown Birch (https://thorndown.co.uk/product/birch-wood-paint/).

When applying both preserver and weatherproofing, it's incredibly important to ensure you coat all the external timber, including the bits which cannot be easily seen.  This includes the ends of the logs, between logs, bottom logs and the underside of all doors and windows.  

Shed quality paints are not suitable, and will void any warranty.

To validate warranty, we ask that the cabin is treated, and weatherproofed using the correct process within 28 days of build completion.  Should you be unable to treat the cabin within this period - contact us on 01389 734572.

To increase the longevity of your log cabin or BBQ hut, here's a few tips and tricks:

Spray water on your cabin - if it beads up and rolls down, you are good for another year, however if not, we recommend re-treating the cabin.

Check for plants and trees around the perimeter of the cabin - these should be at least 12 inches away.  This is to help with air circulation and sunlight.

Check the condition of the roofing material and keep the roof clear of moss and leaves.  A build up of moss or leaves may lead to water ingression.
