Locations for a Log Cabin or BBQ Hut

  • By Conor Crozier

Sometimes you have the perfect location and all you need is the right type of log cabin to fit in, and then there are the other times when you have found the perfect timber building or lodge and all you need is the right setting to show it off!

Marrying the perfect Chalet with the right location is paramount. As every good log cabin owner knows, its LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Well the right location does not have to be in stunning scenery….although it might help. The right location for one person might be the end of their garden.

So here is 5 possible perfect locations for your perfect log cabin, wither it be a Swiss Chalet (Ascot T24), modern Al Fresco dinning cabin (Vertical), or Hygge room (Finman BBQ Hut).

Lakeside – With the possibility of looking out over the water on a winter morning, or summer evening (or vice versa) while drinking a hot chocolate this most be one of the best locations for a chalet or weekend house. Fishing and water sports are also possible.25182373_10155461717299440_3491019261111714279_o

Forrest – Some people will state this is a Log Cabins natural habitat, where the elder log cabin timber can be along its younger growing kin. Log Cabin construction is at its heart an environmentally friendly build. After you have fully got the benefit of your wooden house the logs will eventually be allowed to go back to nature and feed the next generation of forest trees. By this time your children’s children’s children will be able to.24312534_1546043265476943_4101569755946837226_n_2.jpg

Hill top – Now, not only can you enjoy your Log Cabin, but you can enjoy a view as well. Having a Lodge constructed on a hill can make it more susceptible to elements, so you will need to make sure that it will withstand all that nature can through at it. Good quality wood and double glazing are paramount, as is preserving the wood with a varnish, stain or paint that withstand full force rain, snow and wind. The end result though is a great timber building that will last many years from which you can enjoy nature. Count me in!22467572_1898037113556557_2791337372308125609_o

Garden – Ok, some people might think that this is the place for a summerhouse, but a well placed Log Cabin can look great and last longer than your average summerhouse. Log cabins, lets call them Garden Cabins, would normally start with a wall thickness of 30mm and upwards, anything less is a summerhouse or shed really. Garden Cabins come in 2 types of wall construction 1. interlocking tongue and groove logs and 2. pre-constructed tongue and groove panels. So, a well place Garden Cabin will sit perfectly in your garden, wither in the corner or in centre. It can work with the surrounding plants and trees to blend in or accentuate the flora and fauna, having green bitumen roofing shingles will help. Think of the uses, office, sitting room, dinning room, extra accommodation, laundry.Arno1

Seaside – “Oh I do like a Log Cabin beside the seaside” Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. Just imagine the view, watching whales, dolphins etc. or sea birds from the comfort of your very own hide (with heater and armchair). Your binoculars will be safe inside the solid timber construction. Like the Lodge on top of a hill you will need to make sure that this wooden building is preserved well and as the manufacture requires (really this goes for all timber constructed buildings, if you want them to last)! With the wind blowing and the smell of the salt in the air you can relax and let your troubles float away in the wind.Nolan2

So relax, you have earned it after all your hard work building your perfect log cabin.
